is , am , are แปลว่า เป็น อยู่ คือ เราใช้กริยานี้เพื่อแสดงสภาพสภาวะในปัจจุบัน เมื่อเราพูดถึงสภาพสภาวะที่กำลังเป็นอยู่ เราใช้ is, am , are ในรูปปัจจุบัน การใช้ is , am , are ต้องสังเกตประธาน ควรดูประธานว่าเป็นรูปสรรพนาม หรือคำนาม ถ้าประธานเป็นคำสรรพนาม จะมีการใช้ดังนี้
